Christine Massing, Ph.D. is an associate professor in early childhood education at the University of Regina. She has extensive experience teaching children in cross-cultural contexts including Colombia, Japan, Guatemala, Mexico, Egypt, and in two First Nations communities in Canada. Christine’s research expertise is in the fields of early childhood education and immigrant/refugee studies and she is currently working alongside children and families in a child care centre for newcomers to Canada. Her other research interests include intercultural child care practice, family engagement, newcomer access to child care, and early childhood teacher education. She is co-author of two books: Teacher Education in Diverse Settings: Making Space for Intersecting Worldviews and Learning to Teach Young Children: Theoretical Perspectives and Implications for Practice.

Christine Massing's Sessions

Workshop

This session is based on a research project aimed at understanding the educational experiences of refugee background children as
they journey from back home, to transition countries, and eventually to Canada. Their stories, artistic creations, and advice for educators will be shared and discussed. This session is aimed at educators working in out-of-school care and attendees will learn
strategies and gain resources for working with children from refugee backgrounds.
