Georgiana Mathurin (she/her/hers) is a Registered Early Childhood Educator who has practiced in a Greater Toronto Area child care centre for ten years with various age groups. Georgiana earned a Diploma and Honours Bachelor Leadership degree in Early Childhood Education at George Brown College, School of Early Childhood. Georgiana completed her Master of Arts in Early Childhood Studies at Toronto Metropolitan University [TMU]. She is completing a Master of Arts in Immigration and Settlement Studies at TMU. Georgiana’s interest is in Black childhood futures, anti-Black racism in early childhood education, Black migration/precarious immigration status, Black children in the child welfare system, and community mobilization/engagement.

Workshop

In this workshop, facilitators will explore recent studies, findings and initiatives related to race and racism in the field of early childhood. They will explore the intersectionality and complexity of Black mothering as a direct response to anti-Black racism and other forms of oppression. The workshop includes an interactive call to action for practitioners, administrators, educators and the like.
